Pests affecting crops range from animals such as rodents or birds, to insects such as caterpillars & spider mites to plant diseases caused by viruses, fungi, or bacteria.  In years past, farmers would simply spray a pesticide or fungicide on a crop to control harmful insects or diseases. In recent years, however, scientists have found that many of these chemicals were harmful to people and indiscriminately destroyed beneficial insects.  Government regulations on pesticides, as well as the consumer demand for pesticide free or organic produce, have forced the chemical industry to develop soft or safe chemicals.  These safe chemicals include products like soaps, oils and natural insect growth regulators.

The team at Future Growing trains growers individually on IPM practices & develops written procedures specifically to your operation

First, we look at mechanical pest control which deals with physical insect barriers such as greenhouse structure and screening as well as the mechanical training and maintenance of your crop.

Second, we provide pictures and written material that covers the type of insects and diseases your particular crop will be susceptible to.  We show you how to look for these pests and what part of the plant they develop on.  Locating your pests at an early stage allows you to effectively utilize beneficial insects & microorganisms.  As you continue through this section, you will see a wide variety of harmful insects you may find on your crops and some of the beneficial insects used to control them.  We buy our beneficial insects from several sources and have found that some companies are better at rearing certain beneficial insects than others.  There can be a half dozen or so beneficial insects for your problem pest so how do you choose the best one?  We show you how to choose the right beneficial insect by looking at your crop, day length, temperature, humidity, and other greenhouse factors.  A customized plan is then developed for your crop throughout the entire growing season.

Third, we show you the types of soft or biological friendly chemicals that you can also use in an IPM program.  There are also many OMRI Listed pesticides & fungicides approved for hydro-organic operations.

Finally, we work with you and your staff to develop and implement good management practices for producing successful crops.  Disease resistant crop selection, sterilization of equipment & tools, & proper crop handling are essential methods in the battle against pests.  Quality employee training is your best defense against pests in the greenhouse.  Without the proper training, your employees can easy spread insects & diseases consequently, consuming all your profits.

Please view our gallery below and take a look at a sample of the amazing products, microorganisms, & beneficial insects available to our growers today.  Please keep in mind we are only displaying some of the common problem pests that occur on greenhouse crops.  There are other pests as well as several species for each problem insect.  The IPM approach for each species of a harmful insect may be different.  There are also many other Genus & species of beneficial insects & microorganisms not shown that we have available to the grower.  Our team will work closely with you to produce a bountiful crop by selecting the right beneficial insects & microorganisms as well as economically viable products & training for your IPM program

                            Field Guardian Nematodes Include:

                            Guardian Nematodes - Steinernamatid Spp.

                            Lawn Patrol - Heterorhabditatid Spp.

Field Guardian Nematodes actively searches for insects, insect pupa and insect larvae in places that are constantly moist.  These beneficial nematodes can be used in growing media, greenhouse floors, or outside in the soil to help prevent insect intrusion into the greenhouse.
